Countdown to Finale in Kansas City

Fort Worth, Texas (September 24, 2009) The 2009 CBR Tour presented by Mahindra has only one event left, The Cinch CBR West Texas Showdown presented by Frontier Dodge. Scheduled for October 17, 2009 in Lubbock, Texas, this last-call event will determine the invitation list to the upcoming Carter Energy Tuff Hedeman CBR Tour Finale Presented by American Royal in Kansas City October 30 and November 1. Competition will be intense as the CBR riders pull out all the stops to make their way to the financially lucrative tour finale.

The Top 40 riders will compete in the 2009 CBR Tour Finale. To the winner goes the CBR World Championship crown, cash bonus of $300,000 and an additional $100,000 bonus to the top rider. Here are the top five riders in the CBR Standings to date.

#1 Jarrod Craig – Score 1317.50 Jarrod Craig hails from Hillsboro, Texas and leads the pack. He is 16 for 25 rides and is one of the most consistent riders on the CBR Tour. He has held the number one spot in the standings for most of the 2009 season. Between CBR events, he has been chasing the top 15 PRCA riders for an invitation to National Finals Rodeo, which he has qualified for twice. Jarrod won the Waggin Train Tuff Hedeman Summer Chute Out event in Lakeland this past summer with a top score of 172. When asked about his thoughts going into Lubbock, and possibly Kansas City in the top position, he says, “ I haven’t given much thought to it. As long as I go to every bull ride and win, then it shouldn’t be a problem now should it?” This will be Jarrod’s fourth trip to the CBR World Championships.

#2 Hugo Pedrero – Score 1210.50 Hugo Pedrero has been almost unstoppable since his win at the George Paul Memorial in May. Riding 15 of 22 outs, he has moved up in position at every event on the CBR Tour. He is closing in on Jarrod Craig with only 107 points needed to reach first place. Lubbock will prove very interesting between these two riders. Hugo is a previous Mexico World Champion and won the infamous George Paul Memorial Bull Riding in 2009. This will be his second shot at a CBR World Championship.

#3 Ardie Maier – Score 1046.50 Ardie Maier is close enough to overrun both Jarrod Craig and Hugo Pedrero. Sitting out last season due to a serious neck injury, Ardie has had to overcome several injuries this season including a torn groin and broken jaw. Nevertheless, Ardie has persevered, “My mind has been on winning the CBR World Championship since the first event of the season,” he says.

#4 Chad Loving – Score 704.50 A Missouri native, Chad Loving is relatively new to the CBR. He made quite a debut in Biloxi, MS the first event of the season, where he received a 93 the high score of the night. He is looking forward to his first trip to the CBR World Championships. Chad is a very possible prospect for the title win.

#5 Chad Castillo – Score 695 Chad Castillo is no stranger to the top of the standings. He has been a consistent top 5 rider for the last two seasons. Although he has not had as many rides as some of the others, he has produced some of the highest scores. Tuff Hedeman, CBR President commented – “Chad is a great rider. I would definitely watch for him in Kansas City- he still has a lot of big rides in him.”

There are also several recognizable riders chasing the pack, including previous 2008 CBR World Champion Clayton Baethge, Louisiana native Kenny Westrope, John Jacobs, Cole Echols and Cooper Kanngiesser.
